Over a century ago, the First World War transformed the landscape of Flanders Fields forever. Now, as the region has recovered, cemeteries, monuments and reminders of the history are bestowed here. Throughout 2024, a theme year entitled Landscapes: Feel Flanders Fields, invites visitors to reflect on the scars the landscape still bears today.

Ypres, is a picturesque town, which welcomes groups and English is widely spoken. It is home to the daily Last Post tribute which takes place at the Menin Gate Memorial and has a good selection of accommodation for groups for all budgets and sizes.

The region of Flanders Fields is not only popular for groups to visit due to its historical significance, but it is also home to a number of breweries, cycling routes and walking tours, all of which enhance a visitor experience to the region.

A group visit to Talbot House is synonymous with an unforgettable experience in a special location. Enjoy the authentic atmosphere of this Everymans club, discover a house full of stories and let yourself be transported into the past with entertaining story tours and a tasty cup of tea.

Group reservations from 15 people up to 50 and special arrangements for more. Group discounts available from 15+ and a lunch is also possible upon request.

The Passchendaele Museum

The Passchendaele Museum tells the story of WW1 with a specific focus on the Battle of Passchendaele. Group reservations for a guided or non-guided visit are available via the website.

The new Passchendaele 1917 immersive experience has just opened, where visitors can find themselves in the middle of the landscape in 1917 through the use of powerful visualisations, music and historical imagery. Groups can also visit the dug outs and reconstructed British and German trenches.

In Flanders Fields Museum 

The In Flanders Fields Museum, located in the Cloth Hall, Ypres, is the perfect place to start your group visit.

Presenting the history of WW1 from different perspectives and focusing on the human side, allows visitors to empathise with the people who were there at the time. Guided tours are available and can be combined with a walk through the city or visits to local war sites in the area.

Hooge Crater Museum

Hooge Crater Museum in Ypres is regarded as one of the best private museums in Flanders. It is home to an extensive collection of WW1 memorabilia.

The Front Eye has also just opened which offers a panoramic view from the museum out onto the Ypres Salient. The museum also has its own café which can seat 120 people inside and 50 on the terrace. Bus parking is available in front of the museum.

CWGC

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission ensures the continued remembrance of those who have fallen in conflict since the First World War. Their military cemeteries can be found throughout Flanders.

Each site is a reminder of the stories of those who experienced the horrors of war. The information centre, just next to the Menin Gate provides an introduction for those going out into the battlefields.

Westtoer, the regional tourist board for Flanders Fields, have in collaboration with several partners, coordinated the Landscapes: Feel Flanders Fields theme year. With a number of exhibitions and events commemorating the unique landscape.
