London Transport Museum’s award-winning Hidden London programme is launching its first-ever Halloween guided tour at Clapham South’s deep-level shelter.

Clapham South: Ghosts of the Underground will run four times a day, Wednesday to Sunday, from 21 October to 1 November 2026.

Featuring access to parts of the shelter not previously opened to the public, the new tour combines newly researched wartime stories with exclusive recorded interviews from current and former London Underground staff, who share personal accounts of unusual experiences from across the network.

Hidden London is the Museum’s award-winning programme of exclusive guided tours, taking visitors aged 10 and over into closed-off parts of the Underground network, including disused stations, wartime shelters and secret filming locations. This is the first Halloween special to be launched since the programme began in 2015.

Guests will be led by expert guides eleven floors beneath the streets of south London into the maze of corridors that make up Clapham South’s deep-level shelter. Completed in 1944, it was one of eight shelters constructed beneath London during the Second World War to protect civilians from air raids and could accommodate around 8,000 people.

Today, its near mile of deserted, frozen-in-time tunnels, former sleeping quarters and wartime spaces make it one of the most atmospheric and eerie locations in London.

Entering through an entrance not used on the regular Clapham South: Subterranean Shelter tour, visitors will explore areas not previously seen by the public. Newly uncovered stories from the Second World War will reveal the first-hand experiences of Londoners who sought refuge across the network during some of its most challenging moments.

These historical accounts will be interwoven with recorded interviews with current and former London Underground staff, including personal recollections of unexplained sounds, unexpected sightings and other unusual experiences while working beneath the city.

The tour will also explore some of the Underground’s most enduring stories and legends. Atmospheric lighting, sound, projections and immersive storytelling will blur the line between past and present as the journey continues deeper into the shelter.

Designed especially for Halloween, the tour is written primarily for adult audiences but is open to visitors aged 10 and over.

• Prices: From £39 for adults and £36 for concessions and children
• Minimum age: 10

Tickets include half-price one-day entry to London Transport Museum in Covent Garden within one month of the tour date, where under-18s go free, plus a 10% discount on full-priced products at the Museum’s shops.
