Dramatic Heart of Wales: Dramatic Location for Group Travel
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council’s (NPTCBC) new destination brand, The Dramatic Heart of Wales, is launching a campaign to attract group travel operators to consider the area as a location for future tours. The destination name is a nod to the dramatic and contrasting landscapes as well as a location marker as Neath Port Talbot is found in the heart of the south Wales coastline.
A new destination website has been created to showcase the many attractions, experiences, and accommodation options available throughout the county. In addition to the website, a new Group Travel Brochure has been created (available in both English and Welsh) to give an in-depth look at the area and to provide group travel operators with all the information they need to make informed decisions about the area as a tourist destination.
Attractions in the area will appeal to a wide range of audiences. Neath Port Talbot offers impressive mountain biking facilities at Afan Forest Park and Margam Country Park for both beginners and advanced riders. There are a wide range of adventure activities available from canyoning and gorge walking through to kayaking and coasteering. For groups looking to take a slower pace, the Dramatic Heart of Wales offers a wide network of walking routes and historical attractions that delve in the area’s past from its early days as a Celtic monastic community through to its industrial heritage. Visitors will also learn about the famous names that hail from the area like Richard Burton, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Katherine Jenkins and Rob Brydon.
Karleigh Davies, Tourism Manager within the tourism team at NPTCBC, who is leading the campaign comments: “Neath Port Talbot is well placed and well-resourced to attract group travel operators. We have a wealth of experiences available to groups of all types alongside a wide range of accommodation and dining options. We have created our own series of itineraries for visitors to enjoy, depending on their interests and we’re really looking forward to working with group travel operators to create unique experiences for them and their customers. With our beautiful and contrasting landscapes, 3-mile long sandy beach, mountains, hills and valleys, we are the perfect destination for people seeking out new adventures for their staycations. I may be biased but our friendly, welcoming communities also create a wonderful atmosphere for visitors too.”
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council secured funding for this project via the Visit Wales Regional Tourism Engagement Fund (RTEF). RTEF is supported through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and Welsh Government.
