Take your group to Gentleman Jack

Just finished at Sadlers Wells, London and then going on tour to April 2027, Northern Ballet’s GENTLEMAN JACK is a superb production. It tells the story of Anne Lister, the lesbian owner of Shibden Hall near Halifax in Yorkshire. We have learnt her story from the secret diaries she left behind.

Gemma Coutts who danced the part of Anne Lister on the night I went, is outstanding. Beautiful lines, she shines in the sensual choreography of Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. The rest of the dancers are also most impressive and there is Chorus Of Words – the corps de ballet dressed in costumes with the words of Anne’s diary all over them.

Composer, Peter Salem, gives us music that suits both the story and the dancers. Lighting, set and costume enhance the production. Worth seeing if you can.
