London Transport Museum in Covent Garden is opening its doors after-hours on Friday 20 March for a Museum Late inspired by its new exhibition, Art deco: the golden age of poster design, which explores the enduring influence of the art deco style through a striking display of original transport posters, photography, short films and ceramics.
Visitors to the Late can enjoy exclusive access to the exhibition and the Museum’s galleries at this adults-only evening. Guests will also have the chance to explore the Museum’s collection with drink in hand, join in on craft workshops, dance classes and enjoy live music performances.
Event highlights include:
Art deco headdress making
Craft a unique art deco-inspired headdress in a hands-on workshop led by expert milliner Sahar Millinery. Drawing on the bold shapes and luxurious materials of 1920s and 30s fashion, guests can create a stylish accessory to elevate their night.
Jazz and jive
Charleston dancers from SwingDanceUK will bring the dancefloor to life throughout the evening. Guests can also ‘cut a rug’ and join a mini dance class to learn some 1920s and 30s moves and enjoy live music performances from some of London’s most talented young jazz musicians, Filippo Ieraci and Giovanni Cresseri.
Cocktails on tap
Sip in style at pop-up bar The Thirst Trap, who will be serving mixologist-grade cocktails on tap. Visitors can pair their art deco experience with a perfectly chilled cocktail and toast to the glamour of the golden age.
Visitors to the Late can also climb aboard historic buses, Tube trains and trams from days gone by including a vintage art deco style 1938 stock Tube train. They can try their hand at driving an Elizabeth line train on the Museum’s interactive simulator and explore vintage posters, early Underground maps and striking design classics from across the wider collection.
Tickets cost £21.00. Over 18s only. Concessions are available. Book advance online: ltmuseum.co.uk/whats-on/lates/museum-late-art-deco
