EPC – European Political Community Summit

On the 18th of July 2024, Blenheim Palace hosted the fourth European Political Community Summit (EPC). Staff at Britain’s Greatest Palace described an incredibly busy weekend after reopening, with visitors queuing at the door to see the rooms which hosted not only 45 world leaders but also HM King Charles III, who arrived mid-afternoon and hosted a special reception in the Palace’s Long Library. It was the first visit by a monarch to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill for 88 years. This high-profile event has significantly impacted the wider economy, boosting local tourism and hospitality industries as visitors flocked to the region. Furthermore, the summit has heightened global interest in Blenheim Palace, enhancing its reputation as a key cultural and historical landmark on the international stage.

Dominic Hare, Chief Executive of Blenheim Palace, commented: “It’s remarkable to think we hosted an event attended by a quarter of the world’s leaders; the summit was, without doubt, the most significant event that has ever taken place at Blenheim Palace, and the feedback we received was incredible.”

Sustainability

In 2017, we made a five-year pledge to become a net generator of green energy. We are working towards this through significant energy savings by converting to electric cars and LED lighting, and insulating roofs across the Estate. We have also focused efforts on green renewable energy projects including biomass, solar and hydro power.

We pledge that by 2027, we will become carbon neutral on scopes 1-3 of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) protocol across all operations by 2027 and, beyond that, to remove 230,000 tonnes CO2e from the atmosphere by 2050.
